A Glass of Milk a Day

Milk for maintaining weight balance

Research shows that those who drink skimmed milk are slimmer than others and that calcium, especially from milk, can assist with weight loss, by building muscle. Children and teenagers whose calcium intake is low are more likely to become overweight than those who consume dairy products regularly. It is not entirely clear what  property of milk has this effect, but it is most probable that calcium binds fat from the diet so that it is not absorbed in the increases the amount of fat burned by the body.

Milk - secret to beauty

The hair and skin need vitamins and proteins from food. Milk's wholesome ingredients clean and care for the skin, and beautiful hair is achieved by eating well. Milk contains vital nutrients  for beautiful, healthy hair- proteins , lipids, calcium, vitamins A, B2 and B6, and potassium.

Milk for blood pressure

The risk of vascular disease and cerebral  haemorrhage  is considered to be increased by high blood pressure. Research shows that a diet  rich in fruit, vegetables and skimmed milk products efficiently reduces high blood pressure.

Pump it up!

Milk as a training drink, both before and after physical activity, is an excellent alternative to expensive energy and sports drinks. Milk holds its own in comparison with energy and sports drinks, which may contain ingredients such as caffeine and taurine, that can be harmful, if consumed in excess. During physical activity, the body requires additional amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and minerals - all of which are present naturally in milk. Studies also suggest that drinking milk is an effective way of restoring fluid balance.

Milk for vitality

As humans grow older, natural changes and degeneration occurs in memory, skeleton and muscles. Vitamin D present in milk maintains the skeleton, its vitamins help to counteract degeneration of memory and its efficient amino acids keep muscles toned.

Protecting teeth

Besides calcium, milk contains proteins that help strengthen teeth and prevent decay. Above all, cheese encourages general oral hygiene, by maintaining the right acidic conditions. It is therefore a good idea to finish a meal with a small piece of low-fat cheese.

Relax with a warm glass

Milk lowers blood pressure and is a relaxant. It contains tryptophan,  an amino acid that indirectly soothes nerves and helps induce sleep.

Strengthening bones

Half a litre of milk a day gives the body most of the calcium it needs to slow down bone decalcification . Increased milk consumption has also been linked to reducing  the risk of osteoporosis in both men and women.

Safe milk

Milk, in its loose form, is a natural breeding ground for disease carrying micro organisms and is prone to microbial activity if left unprocessed. The only way to prevent this from happening is to continuously and repeatedly boil milk at home, but this also kills the good bacteria present in milk and reduce its nutritional value. Therefore, we must opt for milk that has been processed with Ultra High Temperature ( UHT ) technology.

UHT milk is aseptically packaged. Under UHT treatment , milk goes through a flash heating process where it is heated at a high temperature for a fraction of a second and cooled in sterile conditions, thus ensuring all harmful bacteria is eliminated, keeping the milk safe from bacterial spoilage as long as the packaging is intact.

Thiruvalluvar, a great saint poet who lived about 2000 years ago, expressed human virtues through his 'couplets' (2 line sayings). His preachings do not connote any caste, community, class, religion, god or goddesses. Respected by one and all across the world, his persona is a beacon to human society for all times. As a token of respect to this legendary saint poet. his statue is being unveiled in the city of bangalore today.
